WITH JACK HEATH

Jack’s back! Jack Heath returns for RWR22 in this fast-paced and intensive full-day masterclass to guide you through creating the genre that has gone through a huge resurgence in popularity recently—choose your own adventures. These stories read almost like a game, where you can change your ending over and over again. During the workshop, you’ll get to write out scenes and work collaboratively to produce a story in one day. Jack will also be encouraging your best writing by providing several activities for you to use to fill your pages.

Debbie, representing Ingram Spark, will take you through the steps for preparing your book proposal and planning/executing your own marketing strategy. This masterclass will include preparing a one page ‘Advance Information Sheet’ that covers your title, blurb, author bio, special features/key selling points; endorsements, price and ISBN. You will also look at costing out your book project and appointing/working with professionals (editors, designers etc) in a self-publishing capacity.

Lauren Elise Daniels is co-author of the bestseller, Winning Short Story Competitions: Essential Tools for the Serious Writer (along with Cate Sawyer and Hawkeye Books). Lauren has also authored essays, short stories and her novel, Serpent’s Wake: a Tale for the Bitten. She holds a BA and an MFA in Creative Writing and has edited 100+ fiction/non-fiction titles. Lauren is a speaker for GenreCon, QWC and Whistler Writers Festival of Canada. Pamela Jeffs is an Australian speculative fiction author. She has published three short story collections and has 70+ short stories featured in various national and international magazines and anthologies. Pamela has been shortlisted for multiple awards throughout her career, including numerous Aurealis Awards and honourable mentions in the Writers of the Future Competition. Table-top games are bigger than ever and offer writers a new avenue for publishing. Shaun Sunday of Brainbeast Studios will take you through the planning and creating of your own RPG. In this fun and creative masterclass, Shaun will have you collaborating with your fellow creatives to plan a group adventure in a danger-rich landscape laden with enemies and treasures. He will also provide you with all the steps you need to produce your own printed/digital download RPG and where and how to publish successfully.

Shaun Sunday is a comic book writer, illustrator and game developer from Brisbane. He is the host of the comics talk show, No Capes and the creator of the 5e player screen (an aid for new and neurodiverse players to navigate Dungeons & Dragons). Shaun is the creator of the RPGs, The Hunger of Firspeak and The Shifting Spire.

Every story needs a hero and in this structure masterclass, Charmaine will show you how to apply Joseph Cambell’s theory, The Hero’s Journey, to your own narrative. Find the key elements every good adventure shares and learn to analyse stories for this structure.

Charmaine Clancy is the founder and host of the Rainforest Writing Retreat. She writes fiction for young teens and mystery short stories for the grown-ups.
